The MacBook Pro comes with a software bundle that includes OS X Lion, their newest operating system, and a suite of software for organizing, socializing, creating and editing media, and browsing the web.

Since Apple released its new Lion operating system earlier this year, all of the new MacBook Pros come with it. Lion has received mixed reviews. Critics complain that the software didn't make enough improvements over its predecessor, Snow Leopard, and some even compare it to Windows Vista, Microsoft's notoriously buggy OS. There are a number of components in the MacBook Pro 13' Unibody Early 2011 that can be cost effectively upgraded. Memory: The MacBook Pro 13' Unibody Early 2011 comes with 4 GB RAM standard, and accepts a maximum of 16 GB. You can use FaceTime to video chat with friends, family, and co-workers, provided they are also on a MacBook, iPhone, or iPad. Of course, other software is available for sale. For instance, iWork, Mac's suite of office software, is available. I recently had to re-install the original OS from the discs that came with my MacBook Pro. This installed Snow Leopard and software updates have taken it to 10.6.8

However it refuses to upgrade to Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks. (I've tried them all a few times).

I have repaired permissions and checked the HD is OK (which it is).

Each time I try to upgrade it takes me to disk utilities. The only way out is to quit and restart in 10.6.8
